Learn about Knowledge Article - the basic knowledge block.
In SyneMind, the basic building block of everything is the Knowledge Article.
To put it simply, it is an "article" (think newspaper article, or blog post) "with the lot". It has a title - which is shown in lists, it has a summary - which is shown as a brief description in search results, and it has "content". The content part is where the "heavy lifting" happens. It can contain "rich text" - which can contain formatting, links, embedded media (images or video), or documents.
There are some key concepts to keep in mind when using the Knowledge Article.
Many things in SyneMind are Knowledge Articles. Many things share the properties of the Knowledge Article, as they are in fact a type of Knowledge Article with some additions - for example, a Note has "status", but apart from that everything else works the same.
Search. Consequently to the above, when you search for a particular text - by default you will search in articles of any type unless you specifically limit the results, e.g. to only search in Notes.
Revisions. Every time you edit an article, you create a new "revision". Old versions are preserved, so you can compare the current state of the article with earlier revisions, and see when you added what.
Hierarchy. An article can be "branched out" into sub-articles ("children"), and these could be branched out further. If you delete an article, its "descendants" will be deleted too!
Publishing. An article can be in a "draft" state (not visible, you are still working on it), or "published", or "unpublished". The latter is something like a deleted file which still hangs around in you "Trash bin" - it is still there, and can be restored, but apart from that it is "as if" it is not actually there.
Privacy. Every article has "privacy" settings which govern its visibility. The default is that nobody but you can see it. You can make it "public" - visible to all, or several "flavours" of private - visible to any logged-in user, visible to people who know a certain password, or you can share it with a group.
Permission inheritance. As mentioned above, everything in SyneMind belongs to a hierarchy. Once you set some permissions or access options on something (e.g. who can view a page) - this propagates down the hierarchy to every sub-page unless you specifically override it. If you put an override on a sub-page, this applies to everything "under" it.
Documents and media. In the content part of your article, you can add documents or "media" (images and video). Note that these get uploaded into a "collection", which has its own access permissions, so if you share the article, make sure that the collection has the same permissions as the article - or else viewers will not be able to access the document or media. Documents and media are only referenced from the article; if you reference a document from ten article, that's not ten separate documents - it is just ten links to the same document.
Links. You can include external and internal links in an article. External links are ordinary HTTP links to other sites. Internal links point to resources (articles) in SyneMind and are treated differently - if you want to link a resource, you browse to it from the link menu and select, you do not provide a full HTTP link to it.
